Your intro on the origin of the term flapper is different from what I heard. I read an account somewhere that it was derived from the type of zip-up rain boot the girls wore in those days. They would leave the tongues of the boot open, and they would make a flapping sound as they walked, hence "flapper".

I've heard several versions as well, I don't know what the truth is.
